Next Steps......

After my second go around with interviews, my confidence level rose greatly. I thought about what Adam and Christina said, have a conversation, people will reject an interview, and that it is ok. The second go around I went with Christina, another fellow in the class, she was great at connecting the interview barrier I may have had with people I was interviewing. She is a native to Baltimore and has been to the Lexington Market, so she was able to connect or reword questions that I may have asked. Listening back to my interviews, as well as my fellow classmates, I noticed common answers being given. Like safety, limited knowledge of changes, flow of business, drug use, interior/ exterior appearance. One of my favorite responses was from Larry, the owner of Konstant’s, where he said, “they need to put lipstick on the pig”, basically remodel it, rather than rebuild because the developers are still unsure of the change. Next steps, would map out who we would like one

"Debriefing"

Going out in the Lexington Market this past Monday was a huge eye opener. Being the only student from the class doing the interviews was nerve racking in itself. Even having prior experience with interviewing, this experience was the scariest one to say the least, because it was on the spot interviews. Having the fellows in the class (Adam and Christina) there, helped ease me into this process. The idea for this day was to set up interviews or talk with the well-known vendors in Lexington Market. What it became was people walking up to us asking what we were doing, which then lead to spur of the moment interviews, with guests and vendors. The fellows explained to me this is how it usually happens most of the time; along with security trying to escort you out as well. The second interview I started was with the help of Adam pointing out that if people are taking photos, signals to others that they are first timers. So, I approached the woman, giving a brief descript

Interviews

After listening again through the interview with Stacey Pack, I realized key things one must have to have a clear/interesting interview. One I feel needs to be the type of questions asked, because certain answers to questions can lead to other follow up questions and responses the person will give. Listening to the interview with Stacey Pack, as I mentioned before, I felt her responses were very calculated . She gave the "safe" answers to us, as opposed to divulging more into her responses. I also feel it's who you ask, some people will give their honest truth, as opposed to others, who may have to watch what they specifically say. My contributions to the project thus far, have been the set up for the interview process we as a group are going to undertake. This past weekend I conducted test runs of interviews with random people on campus or other places. I didn't't realize how hard it was going to be, most people I approached didn't want to talk with me, becau

Next steps/ Future plans

We as a class are working towards what we would like the event we are planning at the Lexington Market to be about.   Can we make a change in the developments? Or will it be a “remembrance” about the Lexington Market. Then for the zine’s that are being constructed, what information do we want to enclose and how it will be used for our event. We are also creating 2 zines’, the first one will be used hopefully for the interview process, then the final one will be handed out at our event. The next steps moving forward are narrowing down who we specifically want to have a more in-depth interview with and who we can actually get to interview…. Meaning developers, people the “new” market is being made for, etc. My contributions moving forward for our event is the interview process, constructing a list of the in-depth interviewees and other areas where we would specifically like to obtain interviews.   Then planning to actually going out in the field with my fellow and th
